Nitrogen Generators by Sorensen Systems

Sorensen System Nitrogen Generator
Sorensen Systems designs, fabricates, installs and maintains PSA Nitrogen Generators for customers in the chemical, food processing, pharmaceutical, metal processing and other industries throughout the Northeast. Building upon its four decades of world-wide experience designing, fabricating, installing and maintaining process control, turbine generation integration and motion control systems, Sorensen Systems is ready with its standard and custom line of PSA Nitrogen Generators.

Major benefit is cost savings
Sorensen Systems’ customers benefit from the cost savings associated with on-site nitrogen generation, which can range from 20 percent, up to an incredible 75 percent, in some cases, depending on the application. Typically, Sorensen Systems customers will experience a payback of their initial investment in equipment within one to two years on a product that has a typical lifespan of 10 or more years. Ruggedly designed, constructed and expertly engineered, Sorensen Systems customers have benefited from over four decades of process control experience.

Another benefit to on-site nitrogen generators is the security of a reliable, constant supply of nitrogen. By eliminating reliance on tank deliveries and the associated problems with that process, Sorensen Systems’ customers experience improved efficiency, reduced cost and fewer worries.

Purity levels of 99.995 percent
Sorensen Systems PSA (pressure swing adsorption) nitrogen generators use CMS (carbon molecular sieve), which allows smaller molecules in the input air to penetrate, while larger molecules bypass to generate the output gas. Sorensen Systems’ series of PSA nitrogen generators can achieve purity levels up to 99.995 percent to meet the most stringent manufacturing tolerances. From the air around us, which consists of 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen, (one percent various other gases), the nitrogen generator strips away the nitrogen and exhausts the oxygen. Various levels of purity can be achieved depending on the system design and the application’s requirements.

Sorensen Systems Advantage
Sorensen Systems brings its many years of engineering experience with process control systems to the design and fabrication of its PSA line of nitrogen generators. Customized engineering to meet specific critical design parameters is the principal advantage for Sorensen System’s customers. While pre-packaged systems are available in the marketplace, frequently manufacturers have specific requirements requiring unique design characteristics.

How PSA systems work
Sorensen Systems’ PSA nitrogen gas generators separate nitrogen from air, utilizing pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology. Air consists of 21 percent O2 and 78 percent N2. The gas separation process used, preferentially adsorbs O2 over N2 using carbon molecular sieve (CMS) enabling the N2 to pass through as a product gas at pressure. The compressor module, which can be lubricated or non-lubricated, along with its associated motor and controls, is included unless the customer has available plant air to supply the PSA system.

The refrigerated dryer module provides the air treatment for the PSA system. This module, consisting of a surge tank, refrigerated dryer and filters, ensures that the PSA adsorption towers receive only clean and dry compressed air, as required for optimum operating efficiency. Oil and water vapors are converted to liquids and aerosols across the refrigerated dryer’s condenser. The liquids are mechanically separated out and the aerosols are removed by a coalescing filter.

The PSA module utilizes Sorensen System’s proprietary state-of-the-art swing adsorption (PSA) technology. One or two ASME coded pressure vessels are specially charged with carbon molecular sieve (CMS). A solid state programmable controller simply operates the process valves on a cyclic basis, with built-in logic for automatic pressure/flow control and automatic stop/start. Nitrogen production and purity remain constant regardless of the customer peak usage demands, by utilizing a PLC programmed menu. Automatic flow/pressure control valves are automatically controlled through a continuous monitoring oxygen (O2) analyzer with alarms and shut-down.

Unlike other manufacturers, Sorensen Systems can provide a highly engineered custom, PSA Nitrogen Generator system to meet your critical operating requirements.
